Learn about our CSA program

Get 19 weeks of local, sustainably grown veggies and herbs between June and October.

  • Check out the FAQs below to learn all about our CSA program. If you still have questions, contact us at peoplesfarmligonier@gmail.com.

  • Interested in becoming a CSA member? Our 2024 CSA program is full but you can join our 2025 CSA program interest list! We’ll notify you when membership registration opens during the winter.

  • CSA programs are a win-win for farmers and eaters. You get a beautiful weekly share of local, sustainably grown vegetables for a full season (early June to mid-October). We get a reliable source of income for the season.

For many small farms like ours, CSA programs are their lifeblood. Without them, many farms like ours could not exist. CSA members—our community—truly support us and keep us going.

CSAs also help connect you to where your food comes from. You pick up your weekly shares right on the farm where your veggies are grown! Plus, CSA members get a weekly newsletter containing recipes, storage tips, and farm updates.

Finally, CSAs help connect you to each other. During share pick-ups, you can meet other members. It’s fine if you need to grab your share and go, but we also welcome you to relax for a bit and chat with other members when you pick up your shares.

  • The 2024 CSA program is 19 weeks long. It begins the first week of June and ends in mid-October.

  • We have two pick-up locations: one in Ligonier and one in Greensburg.

Ligonier: You pick up your veggie shares right on the farm! We’re located about a mile north of the Ligonier diamond on People’s Road off Route 711.

You can choose to pick up your shares on either Tuesdays or Thursdays anytime between 3pm and 6pm.

Greensburg: You pick up your shares at The Laurel Marketplace in downtown Greensburg (14 W 2nd St, Greensburg, PA 15601) on Wednesdays anytime between 2pm and 5pm.

  • While we strictly adhere to USDA organic growing methods (in fact, we go above and beyond them!), to date we have chosen not to pay for organic certification. That’s because, as a hyper-local farm that sells all of its produce within 20 miles of where it’s grown, we have the opportunity to speak with our customers face-to-face about our growing methods.

All of our produce is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers. It’s also 100% GMO-free. Additionally, we rely on growing methods that build soil health, protect water quality, and preserve pollinator and wildlife habitat.

Even though we do not currently pay for USDA organic certification, you can rest assured our produce is safe from harmful toxins and our growing methods are environmentally regenerative.

  • Weekly shares change according to the seasons—that’s part of the beauty of joining a CSA program! A hypothetical weekly share might include…

    • 1 bagged green (salad mix, arugula, tat soi, baby kale, or loose lettuce)

    • 1 bunched green (kale, swiss chard, collard greens, spinach, broccolini, or bok choy)

    • 1-2 roots (radish, turnips, carrot, beets, or kohlrabi)

    • 1 herb (basil, thyme, rosemary, parsley, cilantro, dill, oregano, fennel, sage, etc.)

    • 3-8 seasonal crops (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumber, summer/winter squash, onions, scallions, garlic, peas, artichokes, radicchio, peas, beans and more!)

  • This is tough to answer because it really depends on how many vegetables you and your household consume. For example, vegans, vegetarians, and people who like to make smoothies and juice veggies might go through a lot more veggies each week.

Our advice is to review the question above (“What is included in each weekly share?”) and use your best judgement regarding how many people a share would feed in your household.

If you think a standard share might be too large for your household: Consider splitting a share with a friend, family member, or neighbor!

  • We have approximately 60 CSA shares available in total each season.

  • If you can’t pick up your share for the week, unfortunately we can’t simply tell your veggies to “stop growing” and wait for your return (we wish!). The veggies we include in CSA shares were planted just for you — it’s very difficult, and often impossible, for us to sell them elsewhere due to our capacity constraints and limited alternative markets. That’s why we cannot offer refunds on shares.

If you can’t pick up your share, we suggest gifting it to a lucky friend, family member, or neighbor.

If you know you’ll miss quite a few weeks throughout the season, we suggest splitting the cost of the share with a family member, friend, or neighbor who can pick up shares during the weeks you’ll be away.

  • Each weekly share is valued at approximately $30 per week. To become a CSA member, you purchase a full share upfront for $550 ($30 per week for 19 weeks).

This is comparable to paying for weekly produce at the grocery store, but the produce you’ll get from our CSA is fresher, more nutrient dense, locally grown, pesticide and GMO-free, and good for the environment.

Payment is due in full by May 1. If needed, you are welcome to set up an installment plan with us as long as the full amount is paid by May 1. (You can indicate whether you’d like to pay the full amount or set up an installment plan when you sign up.)

    • We offer full refunds until May 15, 2024
